Drinking
Heals
We present Japanese tea and matcha as part of the Drinking Heals Collection.
In Japan, there is a unique cultural practice called IPPUKU —a quiet moment to reset the body and mind by drinking a cup of matcha or tea, and sometimes by smoking a cigarette. This project reinterprets IPPUKU in a contemporary context, bringing together two seemingly unrelated worlds—tobacco and Japanese tea—in an unexpected way, and inviting us to reflect on our habits.

IPPUKU is more than just a break; it’s a small ritual that restores balance to both mind and body. We became fascinated by the roles that smoking a cigarette and drinking matcha or tea play in this ritual—different acts performed in the same spaces, for the same purpose of resetting. Yet, while smoking harms health, drinking matcha or tea nurture it. These two acts share a purpose but stand at opposite ends of the health spectrum. To express this contrast between their commonality and opposition, we adopted the theme “ Drinking Heals ” in response to the well-known tobacco warning “ Smoking Kills ” , and designed Japanese tea and matcha packaging that deliberately evokes the look and feel of cigarette boxes. This collection builds a unique identity and design language that captures both the parallels and the contrasts between these two worlds.

This project also takes an artistic approach. The culture of IPPUKU, has been preserved in visual form through ukiyo-e—traditional Japanese woodblock prints. Woodblock printing has long been a vital part of Japan’s artistic heritage. In creating the packaging for this collection, we chose to work with silkscreen printing, a modern printmaking method, as a way to blend tradition with contemporary design. The Drinking Heals Collection goes beyond being just a product—it is an artistic proposal that encourages us to rethink everyday habits and cultural practices. By merging tradition with innovation, we aim to offer a new perspective and fresh value. We hope this collection brings a small but meaningful shift to your daily life, offering a moment to restore balance and care for yourself. Drinking Heals —more than a break, it’s a ritual to heal the heart and reset the body. .
