This blend was crafted by Mr. Onishi, the fifth-generation tea master of Kōhōen, a tea farm in Uji with a 150-year history. Kōhōen is known for its dedication to bringing out the unique characteristics of each tea cultivar, and has long embraced new techniques ahead of the curve, deepening the possibilities of tea-making.
The Gokou Blend Matcha combines the deep umami and richness of the Kyoto-born Gokou cultivar with the refreshing astringency and clarity of the classic Yabukita. With the first sip, you'll experience Gokou’s mellow yet bold presence, followed by a clean, lingering umami finish that reflects the Yabukita.
Gokou is prized in high-grade matcha for its nutty aroma and mature, full-bodied flavor, often taking center stage. By blending it with the well-balanced and approachable Yabukita, this matcha achieves a deep, rich profile that remains easy to drink and never overwhelming.
With a perfect balance of sweetness, umami, and astringency, this matcha is excellent for koicha (thick tea), usucha (thin tea), or even as a base for matcha lattes.
